Our Key Achievements
A member of Multi-sector Platform (MSP) in implementing nutrition programmes to address malnutrition especially in children under 5. TCDM also delivered high level trainings for youth especially on Sexually Gender Based Violence, Sexual Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDs and CLTS programming. TCDM supports other health partners including Ministry of Health in Turkana West, Turkana Central and Loima. Target population is 2,000 beneficiaries in 2 years.
TCDM is currently implementing DESIP (Delivering Equitable Sustainable Increases in Family Planning programme together with Population Services Kenya that helps to encourage uptake of
FP methods in Turkana especially through private Clinic running from July 2019 – June 2024 especially in Turkana Central and Turkana West sub-counties.
TCDM Carried out WASH programming in schools and during holidays and in two years have reached 2000 children and trained 500 adults in Turkana West, Loima and Turkana Central. The programming focuses of use of IEC messages on keeping school environment clean, Hand washing and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) whereby 60 girls were reached. CLTS activities also covered in Turkana and participated in Turkana West ODF, global Handwashing and World Toilet Days. Also a member of KISEDP and WASH Technical working Groups
TCDM signed partnership with the Anglican church on nutrition programme to work as a consortium in eradicating malnutrition. TCDM carried out drought assessments in various parts of the county in order to respond to the emergencies including recent locusts invasion assessment in January 2020. Assessment of Nanyee Irrigation schemes in Turkwel and in Napeikar communities in Loima sub-county.
TCDM trained youths on entrepreneurship and ICT in Turkana Central, Loima and Turkana West. TCDM supports vulnerable youths especially in Kakuma, Turkana West through support of GIZ and Xavier by implementing Community Enterprise Cycle Model that empowers youth of age bracket of 15-34 towards mindset change and self-reliance. The programme runs till 2021 with a target population of 1500 beneficiaries and so far at least 200 have benefitted from the training. Thus the youth have been Mobilized, mentored and Trained on online job application, job market, complementary soft skills and digital marketing and freelancing.
On the other hand, 100 youth entrepreneurs have been trained and supported on 10 occasions and later lead to the formation of the youth entrepreneurship group in Turkana Central since 2015 which carried out selling of shops, second hand clothes, restaurants and shoe selling through start-ups.
TCDM also signed an agreement with Swiss Contact in October 2020 to deliver non-formal skills trainings to host communities in Turkana West with key objectives as follows:
– Enhance access to market-responsive skills trainings complemented by entrepreneurial and financial literacy skills as well as life skills for 320 youths aged 18 – 25 years.
– Support the transition of trained youth into self-employment through provision of business coaching and mentorship as well as link them with external advisory services
TCDM has officially been trained on Child Protection Integrated Management System (CPIMS) in 2019 and previously was able to mobilize at least 20 youth conferences in Turkana West and Turkana Central, with each conference having at least 70 youths. Key focus has been to adolescent girls (60%) and boys (40%) through the highly selected topics concerning their Physical, social –economic, psycho-social, and spiritual wellbeing. The participants have also been able to conduct competitions in sports, drama, songs, and dances. TCDM will continue with such conferences in 2020 on quarterly basis in conjunction with other agencies like Sapcone, World Vision, Ampath, UNICEF, IRC and Save the Children and the key objectives being to:
– Increase access to quality health care services by providing basic health packages & emergency referral services; control the spread of communicable diseases and strengthen local capacity for response.
– Promote reproductive health and HIV/AIDS awareness and child survival among the youths/communities
– Control the spread of communicable diseases such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
– Achieve 80% Hand washing among the children and youth
– Reduce teenage pregnancies
– Increase awareness of the threats faced by girls in the community
– Increase dynamics amongst members of youth groups which includes empowerment of females regarding their own sexuality.
– Ensure more equal gender relations between girls and boys who regularly attend youth conferences and camps during school holidays.
– Transfer knowledge to school set-up when schools open after every holiday.
TCDM Partnered with IMD Africa and GFI Ministries in Samburu and Turkana Counties in Training of over 300 ministers (pastoral teams) in 2019. TCDM also offered trainings to children, youth and widows from at least 5 sub-counties in Turkana since 2017 to date. The youth and women departments have been active on voluntary mission outreaches either that supported and created impact on their social, economic, spiritual wellbeing and as well as their education, health or livelihoods activities. TCDM has also Mentorship programmes for its volunteers, interns and as well board members to financially support and pray for their missions and various activities.
TCDM Regularly attends County Steering Group (CSG) and Technical Working Group meetings.
– TCDM regularly attends to KISEDP (Kalobeyei Integrated Social Economic Development Plan) and adheres to CIDP (County Integrated Development Plan) in all its 6 thematic programming areas through partnership with UNHCR, INGOs, Private Partnerss, County Secretary and Office of the Governor.
– TCDM has been trained on Climate and resilience and HACT (Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfer) trainings with UNICEF.
– TCDM has met with all the stakeholders and government line ministries in Health, WASH, FS & Livelihoods, Education, Peace building, Skill development and Child Protection.
– TCDM carried out Rapid Needs Assessments, Drought and Short Rains Assessments in the entire county lead by NDMA in 2018-2019.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
- Promotion of quality basic education among target poor rural communities through various strategies including: - The provision of basic school infrastructure and facilities; - Support for Early Childhood Development Programmes; - Girl-Child Education Promotion and Child Education Support Schemes (CESS) - Generally assisting to develop a community environment that stimulates parents to send and retain their children in school; and - Partnering with other basic education providers including the churches and District Assemblies at the local level.
- Promotion of vocational and entrepreneurial training for women and target rural households towards self-employable skills development and empowerment.
- Educating the women and widows on self-reliant in socio-economic and development of their families and community at large. It is a non-discriminatory and non-partisan group and has programs that would ensure proper development continuation.
- HIV/AIDS prevention education and support for direct and indirect victims of the pandemic through various programme activities such as food security and livelihoods.
